First up on the agenda, liquor licenses. The representative for HuHot isn’t here, so the Council laid their license over to next week

License approved for El Torogoz Restaurant at 9539 Q Street. The applicant said theyll Salvadoran, Puerto Rican, and Colombian food

License for “Shevy Fest” at Shevy’s, 2607 N Main St on June 9 approved

Moving onto planning items, replat for Enclave Flats at 189th and Fort Streets approved

Final plat for The Hill at 168th and State streets approved. Representative Larry Jobeun said this is phase 3 of the development

Rezone for 1107 and 1113 Nicholas Street and 1001 N 12th Street from an industrial district to a central business district approved.

Special use permit for a single family residence in an environmental resources overlay district at 10409 N 72nd St approved

Ordinance consent agenda approved

The consent agenda included ordinances to create zoning for urban agriculture

Now moving on to public hearings

Now for the hearing on Palermo’s position as council VP. First, city attorney Matt Kuhse will give a presentation

Kuhse said Deputy City Attorney Bernard en den Bosche met with Palermo’s lawyer. Palermo did not send a representative to today’s meeting

Kuhse submitted a legal basis for why Palermo can no longer serve as VP, including his indictment and detention order

CM Juanita Johnson said she stands by her argument from last week that CM Palermo is innocent until proven guilty.

“I stand on fairness, equity and due process. That’s my very core,” Johnson said. “Voting yes would be against my moral compass.”

CM Brinker Harding said today’s vote isn’t to determine Palermo’s guilt. He said Palermo will be detained for at least the next three months, so its incumbent on the Council to remove him as VP

Palermo was removed as council VP on a 5-1 vote. CM Johnson voted against
